For this weeks assignment. We were to create two short videos illustrating a joke. Our joke was actually quite funny I thought. It was about a boy playing with his toy train. While he was playing he uses foul language that his mother does not approve of, and puts him into time-out for two hours. After the two hours is up, he resumes playing with his toys and explains to his pretend train passengers that for anyone that is upset with the two hour delay, to see the "bitch in the kitchen." This is the punchline of the joke, and he is referring to his mother as the "bitch in the kitchen". The first film, which we approached as a horror theme, is presented in black and white, to create an extreme contrast within the film of characters, and to create more of an affiliation with fear and horror. The lack of color, and affinity within the first movie is to draw away certain unimportant factors to stray away from color and saturated tones that can be represented as happy and joyous. In this movie, we also gave representation on deep space, at first, it may seem quite limited, but in reality, it is indeed deep space. There are many lines and shaped that are angled in such a way that show a two person perspective shot, drawing the eye back to the other character. This was emphasized as much as possible in every shot we had.
The second video was entitled "The bitch in the Kitchen" understandably. For this, we had a dry, slapstick humor approach, and thought that it would be in better interest to use higher lighting, more scenery, vibrant colors, and upbeat music to give the video an appropriate theme. For this film we used a circular rhythm for many of the shots that were portrayed. For example, there was a circular, figure eight motion that the train was traveling in. After this, the mother was stirring, scrubbing, and cleaning all in this same rhythm. Causing a very repetitive and safe movement to the viewer for this movie. We also created a great deal of tension and release in the film. It almost created a type of roller coaster effect within the film. We started creating tension by having the mother come up and beat her son initially, while release was drawn after he is summoned to time out. After this, tension was presumed again while the son says "bitch in the kitchen", then released when he is beaten and the clip comes to an end. Over all a very different feel to the clips and I believe this is shown very accurately.
